Usually we wear masks to disguise ourselves, to hide some of who we are. Though, in the case of these paintings from Alea Hurst, the masks reveal much more. The Atlanta based artist paints with oil on fabric with bits of her figures exposing the patterns beneath. Alea combines cultural and tribal masks with figures adorn with today’s fashions. She plays around with concept of society’s evolution and how common personality traits have recurred age after age no matter how far humans have advanced.
