Chet Zar
Opening a show tonight called “Faces of Death” at the Last Rites Gallery in NYC, oil painter Chet Zar gave up the glitz and glam of working in the film industry after acting as a special effects/make up artist for such films as “The Ring”, “Hellboy I & II”, and “Planet of the Apes”, to pursue a creative career in the arts. Zar’s paintings resonate themes of fear, anxiety and isolation, emotions that have plagued the artist since childhood. These emotions accompanied by dark demons, extraordinary monsters, and the simply bizarre, have transitioned Chet Zar from a successful career in entertainment to a budding new life as an accomplished artist. “Faces of Death” runs at the Last Rites Gallery until August 19th.
