2nd Annual Supersonic Electronic Inviational @ Spoke Art

Every once in a while the planets align and someone steps up to curate one of the raddest, baddest shows out there. Well that happened this past Thursday at the Spoke Art gallery in San Francisco when Zach Tutor, founder of SupersonicElectronic.com brought together some of the top contemporary artists around for an emmaculate display of fresh creativity. Our San Francisco correspondent Donia was in attendance and was able to snap some awesome pictures of the event. Check it out!

Spoke Art @ Scope Art Show

Another inspiring group of artists we were able to check out at the Scope Art Show in Miami this year was the work of Scott Scheidly and Scott Hove who were showing with the Spoke Art gallery out of San Franciso. We caught up with Spoke Art owner Ken Harman who gave us a little introduction to his artists and let us know his thoughts on the whole Art Basel experience.

Scope Art Fair @ Art Basel Miami

When you walk around Miami during Art Basel one of the things you hear most about is the artwork on display at the Scope art fair. With artists like Ron English, Jorge Santos, Colin Christian, and Scott Scheidly, this fair has something the others don’t, a vast variety of fresh new artists shining in a sea of old favorites. Just be careful that you don’t walk into the cloud of pepper spray. Check out some of our photos from the fair below.

Dan May

Painter and Syracuse University graduate Dan May creates somber dream-like worlds which transcend space and time. Often including unique characters, who seem rather troubled, May’s pieces convey a feeling of all-hope-is-lost while still maintaining a calming, delicate appearance. Check out his work which is on display now at the Sink or Swim art show at Spoke Art in San Francisco. The group show, a benefit for sharks and oceans, is presented by PangeaSeed and will only be up until September 25th, 2011, so be sure to check it out if you’re in the area!

Andrew Spear

facebook twitter myspace

After attending the Art Institute in Boston and later transferring to the Ringling School of Art Design in Sarasota, Florida, Weymouth, Massachusettes born artist Andrew Spear has mastered the mediums of colored pencils and paint. With works ranging from an area of just a few inches to the entire side of a building, Spear has built a reputation upon his unique style of crosshatching and semi-monochromatic approach. Although his pieces almost always contain bright color, these limited hues are used as an accent to his pieces which add to Spear’s signature technique. With the talent and ability to create such large scale works of art, Spear has made the world his canvas. He has designed several indoor and outdoor murals in the Florida area, created a mural for the Real World in Las Vegas, and has been a part of numerous high profile art shows around the country, most recently being Spoke Art’s Quinten vs. Cohen show held at the Bold Hype Gallery in NYC.
